Bereaved families in Kent are expressing profound sadness after discovering that the graves of their loved ones in the cemetery behind All Saints Church in Iwade, near Sittingbourne, will be turfed over. The cemetery, which had its first burial in May last year, is set to be transformed into a lawned cemetery, aligning with its original design.
As the site settles, the council has decided to enforce the original plan, necessitating the removal of flowers, displays, and memorabilia left by headstones. This unexpected development has left already devastated families in further distress.
Dozens of affected individuals claim they were never informed about this decision, pointing out that signs in the cemetery explicitly state that flowers and tributes are allowed within the area of the plot.
