StrangeCargo Art Collaboration

StrangeCargo is well known to local people – in their words this art company “has been built on the ethos of involving other people in the process of creating our work. The company’s key strength is our understanding of where engagement begins.  Everything we do, be it a residency with an international artist, or an award-winning public artwork, can be traced back to the broad invitation we make to communities to be involved.”

And on this occasion, our ‘Friends’ volunteer group was asked to get involved and make some artwork – specifically members were given some lumps of red wax and they made items which for them, had some meaning, or symbolism, about the work they undertake in the old cemetery.

And they did not disappoint – the red wax items that our members fashioned were cast into bronze artworks, assembled into an arty grouping, and now permanently adorn the Folkestone West railway station building. After the unveiling, our members who attended enjoyed the refreshments.
