Heather Bowden 1947 – 2025

On behalf of the Folkestone Cemetery Volunteer Group, Margaret, Damon and I attended the funeral of Heather Bowden, held today at Hawkinge Crematorium. Heather passed away at the end of June.

Heather and her husband Doug were regular supporters of our work—always ready with a smile and kind encouragement. On special occasions, Heather would treat us to her wonderful home-baked cakes, which we all looked forward to.

At the service, family and friends gathered to celebrate Heather’s life. Moving tributes spoke of her love for animals and gardening, her generosity and tireless support for charities, and her excellent baking. The ceremony also featured a selection of beautiful music, including “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” by The Carter Family and Johnny Cash, “Danny Boy” by Eva Cassidy, and “Going Home” by Daniel O’Donnell, which Heather had personally chosen.

After the ceremony, everyone was invited to continue the celebration of Heather’s life over a lovely afternoon tea of sandwiches and cake—just as she would have liked.

We will remember Heather for her warmth, kindness, and sunny disposition—even when facing physical challenges, she never stopped smiling.

Our love and thoughts are with Doug and all of Heather’s family
