As with most gardens – the White Garden is a work in progress, there has been planting throughout 2022 although the very hot months summer did set some plants back. During this time our volunteers spent many hours, weekdays and weekends, ensuring the plants were watered manually and towards the end of the year we were able to add more plants.
Water has had to be carried from the main water source which is by the front cemetery wall – this is some 2 or 3 hundred yards away from the White Garden. So we are particularly grateful for volunteer supporters who donated two new water butts, with another volunteer donating the connection kits – these will be put in place at the side of the ‘resting house’ storage building soon – and next summer watering the plants should be a lot easier.
On October 15th – we held a small private event when we were able to unveil the new White Garden interpretation panel which is placed close to the White Garden itself.
Our volunteers (Heather and Jan) again surpassed themselves by providing many home-baked cakes for our small event.
Our thanks to both Cllr Berry (FHDC) and Ereni (Pavers Foundation) – and Big Thanks to our many private donors without which we would not have been able to create this memorial garden. And also big Thanks to volunteer Carole who has led on this work.
Throughout the winter months ahead, we now have to ensure the bunnies are not doing too much damage. (see original item about the White Garden)
