On November 11th, the Remembrance Day event unfolded near the Machine Gun Corps Memorial in the historic Folkestone cemetery. Despite the gloomy and wet weather, a sizable audience attended, comprising veterans, families, friends, and schoolchildren plus members of the Friends volunteer group. The presence of representatives from the Police and the Gurkha regiment, along with civic representatives from Folkestone Town and District councils, added to the solemnity of the occasion. Major (Retd) Denis Bradley BEM, Deputy Lieutenant, also graced the event.
Respectful gestures were made as poppy wreaths were laid at the base of both the Machine Gun Corps memorial and the Cross of Sacrifice. Carole, a dedicated volunteer from the Friends group, was honored with the task of laying the Friends poppy wreath.
